Henk van MUIJEN graduated in 1984 from Delft Technical University in the Netherlands (Faculty of Mining) with a MSc in mineral processing & metallurgy.
Right after his graduation he started working for Royal IHC and has been employed by this company in several positions. After a start as R&D engineer at MTI Holland, IHC’s R&D centre, he held several positions within IHC Mining. This was followed by a return in 1993 to MTI Holland, first as senior project manager, than as manager of the training department (IHC Training) and in 2005 as managing director of MTI Holland. From 20015 till 2018 Henk was managing director of IHC Mining. Since then he acts as Market Director of IHC Mining, responsible for BD and product portfolio development.
During his career at Royal IHC, Henk always had a strong focus on alluvial & marine mining, dredging and mineral processing. Given this specialist background, Henk regularly publishes articles on dredge mining and mineral processing and lectured at the EMC (European Mining Course) Alluvial and Marine Mining at the Delft University of Technology from1993 till 2014.
Henk held several (advisory) board positions for professional organizations, a.o. chair of the board of WOC (World Ocean Council) and member of the Advisory Board of NIOZ (Dutch Institute Research for the Sea).

Integrated solutions for tailings management projects: de-risking and profitable use
Tailing deposits are found anywhere in the world as a result of mining. These (manmade) deposits present an interesting economic value if we are able to recover the still interesting constituents. Valuable content is based on mineral grades comparable with competing virgin deposits and/or minerals not of interest at the time the mining project started. Besides the profitable use of tailings we are also faced with risks due to possible dam breach and as contaminated deposits. Processing for remediation and de-watering to mitigate risks are of importance. All of these considerations will be highlighted in this presentation using IHC Mining examples.

Tailings projects - overview of challenges and opportunities; globally and within Russian context
Tailing deposits are found anywhere in the world as a result of mining. These (man-made) deposits present an interesting economic value if we are able to recover the still interesting constituents. The valuable content is based on mineral grades comparable with competing virgin deposits and/or minerals not of interest at the time the mining project started.
Tailing deposit material is produced by crushing and milling processes, resulting in a finer sized tailings product. This presents interesting mining and processing challenges. Recovery of the valuable minerals requires a specific approach, especially when the tailings deposit is the result of a complex processes.
This presentation details on these challenges, but also of the opportunities to re-mine and de-risk by showing global examples as well as Russian possibilities.
