Yakov Shneerson

General Director
Hydrometallurgy Research and Development Centre

Jacob Schneerson graduated with honours from the Leningrad Mining Institute in 1959, receiving a diploma in the specialty "Non-ferrous metallurgy". He began his career that same year at the Gipronickel Institute, where he worked for about 50 years. The main theme of the work of Yakov Mikhailovich at the Gipronickel Institute is the study of the laws of high-temperature decomposition of sulfide minerals at elevated temperatures using autoclave technology.

The high scientific and engineering background of prof. Schneerson combined with his rich experience in introducing modern technologies contributed to the creation in 2008 of a new research unit - the Hydrometallurgy Research Center. From 2008 to the present, the Hydrometallurgy Research and Development Center has developed and tested on a large-scale laboratory developing the technology for extracting gold from refractory ores at two promising Petropavlovsk deposits - Pioneer and Malomyr .

Professor Schneerson is one of the authors of the autoclave-hydrometallurgical technology for processing pyrrhotite concentrates. Over the years of scientific activity, Yakov Mikhailovich has published about 300 published scientific works, on his account more than 65 inventions and patents.
